The Inverness Half Marathon (IHM) started in 1984 when it was organised by a local Sports Shop Owner who and when in 1993 he could no longer organise it he approached Inverness Harriers to see if anyone else would take it over. A number of Inverness Harrier Jogging Club members rashly agreed to “give it a go” and they have been doing it ever since. Roy and Lorraine MacDonald, Paul Marrs and Bob Johnston are 4 of the original team who are still on the organising committee and we now have a fairly consistent team of 9 hardworking guys and gals who continue to organise an event that is rising in popularity year on year. The existing course was set up in 1993 apart from the start, which was changed in 1999 to avoid congestion at the front of the Sports Centre. The 25th IHM took place on March 8th 2009 and we are very proud of our race, and the success it has achieved. The course is extremely popular because it is primarily flat, and also very scenic, which probably explains why we have entries each year from all over the U.K., and last year even had entries from Europe and two from Chicago! Race day also incorporates an equally successful FUN RUN in which people of all ages and abilities run/jog/walk alongside local sports celebrities to raise substantial amounts of money for local charities. Last but not least we would like pass on a HUGE vote of thanks to ALL the many volunteers, organisations and local businesses who make such an important contribution, and without whom the event could not take place. THANK-YOU, TO YOU ALL!
