The Global Energy Inverness ½ Marathon’s official charity baton was passed on this week from The ARCHIE Foundation to the Highland Hospice, keeping fundraising by participants of the popular running event for local charities right on track.
For the past two years the Global Energy Inverness ½ Marathon’s official charity has been The ARCHIE Foundation, a charity dedicated to making a difference to the lives of sick children and their families in the North of Scotland, who have received more than £34,000 as a result of the event’s sponsorship.
But now The ARCHIE Foundation has passed the baton on to another important Highland cause, so that they too can benefit from the generosity of race organisers and participants.
Community and Events Fundraiser for Highland Hospice, Carola Highet received the official-charity baton on behalf of Inverness-based Highland Hospice – the only centre of its kind providing palliative care with a focus on enhancing the lives of those with incurable life limiting illnesses here in the Highlands.
Carola said: “We are absolutely delighted to be chosen as the official charity for the 2014 Inverness ½ Marathon. It is wonderful to have the support of Global Energy Group and the event organizers and we are really looking forward to working together with them to achieve something really special, helping people in the Highlands to cope with life limiting illness and live as full a life as possible.”
Global Energy Group’s Alastair Kennedy added: “We are so pleased to be able to continue our support of the Inverness 1/2 Marathon for a third year – and to continue supporting local causes as well.
“We have managed to provide some much needed financial assistance to the ARCHIE Foundation in our first two years of supporting the event, which we know will go a good way to helping them to achieve their aims.
“Given the wonderful work of Highland Hospice and the massive projects they are working on, we thought it right to make the change to spread the financial support to another great Highland cause as we know the money will be put to very good use.”
The Global Energy Inverness ½ Marathon’s new official charity will now benefit from the support of the important running event, which is a favourite season starter for runners across Scotland, the UK and further afield.
Taking place on Sunday, 9th March, 2014, and comprising the ½ Marathon course, 5K Fun Run and 5K team attack, the race programme offers something for runners at all levels.
The event caters for everyone from the rookie runner looking to target their post-New Year resolution runs towards a specific target to the more ambitious athlete hoping to hone their pavement pounding in advance of other events, such as full marathons, taking place in the spring/summer season.
In its third year of sponsorship by Global Energy Group, the Highlands and Islands Tourism Award shortlisted Inverness ½ Marathon takes place over a spectacular course through the City in the Highlands – meaning taking part is reward in itself. An ‘early bird’ registration discount is available at www.invernesshalfmarathon.co.uk from now until 31st October.
And for the serious contenders, cash prizes of up to £1,000 are on offer, as well as trophies for the winners of the 5K Team Attack event.
