Well folks that’s the 26th City Of Inverness Half Marathon over with for another year and I am sure you all are now recuperating from your exertions and considering the implications of a personal best, a personal worst or perhaps a planned time not quite achieved. Whatever happened on the day we hope you enjoyed the event overall.
In the Half Marathon there were 1134 starters and 1126 finishers which was a very good turn out for the event. Commiseration’s to those who did not make it to the finish but we hope you made it back home safely and that you are none the worse for your experience. All the race results can be found on a link from the home page of our web-site and you can download the full results if you wish. There will also be photographs available from Northsport Photography in the next couple of days so please give their web-site a visit.
The weather, though not brilliant was a lot better than the last couple of years and the wind was not as strong as expected so that probably explained the higher than normal number of runners crossing the line in under two hours (787).
There were over 600 runners (and a dog) in Fun Run but the dog cheated as he was carried around in a wheeled tripod by his owner. The last three over the line was the owner of the aforementioned hound and her two companions who all must have been at least 80 years old yet they finished smiling and having a joke with the finish line Marshall’s. Well done to them for putting a smile on many peoples faces. (Yes, we gave the dog a medal as well)
From the organisers point of view everything seemed to go fairly smoothly with no obvious cock-ups reported (yet!). We have had a number of emails from runners making some very positive comments on the event and if you want see some of them again use the link from our homepage. If you have any comment at all about the race or how it is organised please let us know by emailing us at admin@invernesshalf.co.uk .
As you know Sunday was Mothers Day and when our event clashes with it we sometimes struggle to get volunteers to help on the day – for obvious reasons. However, this year we managed to get enough to ensure all bases were covered and I am sure you would like to thank everyone from those at registration to those out marshalling the course and on the water stations who all do a tremendous job on your behalf. While we do not like to single any one group for praise out we must mention the youngsters from the Girls Brigade teams and the Army Cadets who year after year give up their Sunday to help us – what a great bunch of kids they are.
Finally, for reasons we are unable to divulge at the moment we are not sure when next years event will take place so please do not make any definitive arrangements until it is confirmed on our web-site (yes some people really do organise themselves that far ahead).
